Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) also know as clear lens extraction (CLE) is gaining popularity as an affordable surgical option for people over 40 who want to decrease or eliminate their dependence on glasses or contacts. The aging process causes several issues for the clarity of your vision. When we are young our natural lenses are very soft and elastic. As we age this lens loses elasticity making seeing more difficult. Some people over the age 40 will begin to experience hyperopia or farsightedness and maybe presbyopia and require bi-focal glasses to see anything. Since presbyopia is caused by the aging of the lens, not the shape of the cornea, this problem cannot be corrected with LASIK. What is Refractive Lens Exchange?

Refractive Lens Exchange is a non-laser corrective procedure where the natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with an artificial lens, similar to cataract surgery. Currently this procedure is for people with moderate to high degrees of nearsightedness, or farsightedness.

You may be a candidate for a multifocal IOL if you:

1. Are over the age of 40 and need bifocals or reading glasses

The Restor™Lens

The ReSTOR lens ™ is a foldable IOL that represents breakthrough technology because of its unique, patented optic design, which allows patients to experience the highest level of freedom from glasses ever achieved in IOL clinical trials.

The ReSTOR IOL uses a combination of three complementary technologies: apodization, diffraction and refraction, to allow patients to experience a full range of high-quality vision without the need for reading glasses or bifocals. This range of vision without glasses is achieved through the optical properties of the IOL.

ReZoom™ Intraocular Lens

ReZoom™ intraocular lens is a second-generation refractive multifocal IOL that provides hyperopic cataract patients with greater independence from glasses than monofocal IOLs. The ReZoom™ proprietary multifocal design provides a range of vision that monofocals cannot match.

The ReZoom™ Balanced View Optics™ technology distributes light over five optic zones so that each lens has a distance-dominant central zone for distance vision in bright light conditions when the pupil is constricted.
