Eye Surgeons Associates has helped thousands of Quad City residents to enjoy the life style benefits of vision correction surgery. A highly trained LASIK team works to provide you with a great experience. Fellowship trained in the cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery, Dr. Carlton Fenzl’s advanced training, gives our LASIK patients an advantage over other general ophthalmologists.
LASIK (Laser Assisted in-Situ Keratomileusis) and PRK (Photo-Refractive Keratectomy) are the two most common forms of laser vision correction to fix astigmatism, near and farsightedness. Both procedures use the excimer laser to reshape the cornea allowing light to properly focus on the retina.
With Intralase, iLASIK or blade-free LASIK (all interchangeable names), the first part of the procedure involves creating the LASIK flap. This is done through the use of the femtosecond laser. After the flap has been lifted, the excimer laser treatment is applied.
The whole procedure to treat both eyes takes about 20 minutes, although you’ll be in the LASIK suite for roughly 2 hours to prep and for post-op instructions. Most LASIK patients usually see quite well the day following their procedure and may be able to resume most of their normal daily activities, including going to work. Although the speed of visual recovery depends on personal healing patterns, most patients notice dramatic visual results within the first few days. If a person is not a good LASIK candidate because of thin corneas or dry eyes, PRK can be performed. Visual results are equivalent to those achieved with LASIK, but recovery may take a little longer.
Refractive lens exchange, astigmatic keratotomy, and Implantable Collamer Lenses are also alternative procedures for those who may not be LASIK candidates.
LASIK is the safest, most successful, and most studied elective procedure in the world. It has the highest patient satisfaction rate of any elective procedure, and the results have continually improved as technology and surgical techniques advance and preoperative diagnostic screening and patient selection become more refined. LASIK may not be suitable for all patients. Individual results may vary. Please carefully review the informed consent with the surgeon regarding the potential risks and benefits of this procedure.
Some insurance plans do have LASIK benefits available. Please check with your plan for information. The IRS has determined that vision correction is a qualified deductible medical expense and it qualifies for payment through employer sponsored "cafeteria" or "flex" medical benefit plans and health savings accounts (HSAs).
LASIK is an excellent investment in your personal well-being. For this reason, we believe that financial considerations should not be an obstacle and provide CareCredit healthcare credit card. Eye Surgeons Associates offers a variety of programs and payment plans through CareCredit for elective procedures.
I am so glad to have had Lasik eye surgery done. From walking out the door and already being able to tell that my eye sight was improved to waking up the next day thinking I still had my contacts in my eyes. It was something that I had been putting off for a few years and glad I finally decided to take the step and get it done. I will never regret getting this surgery done.
Before my procedure, I couldn't even read a menu, without digging out my glasses, and even then I'd have to adjust the length at which I held it from my eyes. From the minute Dr. Fenzl first sat down to discuss my vision options, I was impressed with his knowledge and expertise. The team at Eye Surgeons was concerned with exactly how I intended to use my improved vision. The Eye Exam led to another conversation, and I never felt pressured to do any procedure. There were many options, and Doc was really candid about the pros and cons of each. My procedure was tailor made for my vision goals. Monovision let me see both up close, and at distance with no glasses! I couldn't believe the difference! It didn't take long to adjust to monovision, and the benefits of seeing everything, all the time makes me wish I had done it sooner!
