Title: To see or not to see...that is the question
Author: Mary Vestal

Lasik surgery will improve my life and make things easier in many ways. I am 37 years old and have been wearing contacts and eyeglasses since I was about 18. I have to wear one or the other to be able to do basically anything. This includes driving, reading a book, watching my kids swim, and even clearly seeing the stars and moon in the sky. All are things I enjoy doing, especially watching my kids swim or sleep or play.

I have also worn hearing aids since I was about 33 years old. During pregnancy, I started to experience ringing in the ears which lead to hearing loss. This eventually lead to the necessity for hearing aids. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done to correct the hearing situation beyond wearing hearing aids. Alternatively, my eyesight can be fixed with Lasik surgery. To have hearing loss that cannot be fixed through medical intervention makes me feel helpless, but to have a procedure available to correct my eyesight is very liberating. It is my hope that I have the opportunity now or in the future to experience this procedure.
