After 25 years of serving the vision needs of the Quad Cities, Dr. Richard Phinney will be retiring at the end of April. He joined Eye Surgeons Associates (ESA) in 1991. He and Dr. Peter Fries were the first to join the Arbissers, co-founders of Eye Surgeons, transforming ESA from a small practice to a multi-specialty group.
Dr. Phinney, a board certified cataract and LASIK surgeon, was the first to offer LASIK in the Quad Cities and has improved the vision of tens of thousands of refractive surgery patients. Dr. Frederick, President of ESA, adds, “It’s been an honor and a privilege to work side by side with Rick. We will all miss the great talents he brought to the practice. We wish him and his family the best in retirement.”
Dr. Phinney was distinguished as a Top 5 Surgeon in the U.S. by Sightpath MedicalTM based on surgical excellence, and experience demonstrated through procedural volume, and delivery of exceptional patient care. The Global Directory of Who’s Who honored Dr. Phinney as a Top Doctor in 2012 for dedication and contributions to the medical profession. Dr. Phinney, as a recognized thought leader in Ophthalmic surgery, was chosen to serve on the Sightpath Strategic Advisory Group. The SSAG represents a select group of Sightpath Cataract, Refractive surgeons working together to address clinical topics and trends, share current perspectives about the industry, discuss emerging trends and technologies, and to provide clinical review to peers. He served as past president of the Rock Island Medical Society and on their executive committee.
Dr. Phinney comments, “It’s been a wonderful career. I’d like to thank my patients, the medical community and staff for their loyalty, positive word of mouth, and support. I’m going to miss hearing that “Wow” from a patient after restoring their vision. I leave knowing that the practice is in capable hands and that patients will continue to receive the best in eye care. Thank you for trusting me with your vision.”
